We sail Ariel, our 1979 Cape Dory 36, out of St. Joseph, Michigan. We purchased the boat in 2003 and had her shipped from Cayuga Lake in Upstate New York, where she’d spent her life, to the waters of Lake Michigan. Since her arrival, she has logged thousands of miles on Lake Michigan, including some extended summer cruises to places like Beaver Island and Charlevoix, Door County, and (this summer) the North Channel of Lake Huron. We love the water, the solitude of sailing, and the romance of owning a classic Carl Alberg design. Ariel is a cutter with a low-aspect rig, a full keel with cutaway forefoot, and seakindly manners. She takes good care of us, and we do our best to take good care of her.
