Haul-Out
Wild Weather

Westfalls' Typhoon

10.19.04 - It's hard to believe that another season is over and winter is looming. It seems like only a few weeks ago that we were going through this whole process in reverse, but now Ariel is on her cradle, the engine, head, and water tanks winterized, her sails folded and stored, and her mast scheduled to be pulled on Thursday.
The haulout process took about two hours thanks to a faulty thermostat on the Travel Lift and a disagreement about strap placement between one of the yard workers and your's truly. It took two improper strap placements (and partial lifts) to get the worker to finally agree that I did, in fact, know where the aft strap should be located so that it wouldn't contact the rudder. By the time the strap was correctly placed and Ariel pulled out of the water, the Travel Lift had overheated and decided to take a two hour break until the guys were able to get the old, broken - literally - thermostat replaced.
When Ariel was finally placed on her cradle I winterized all the necessary systems and cleaned things up a bit. I'm glad to have her safely on her cradle, and not hanging from a creaky, old Travel Lift.
