Just in time

December has brought with it the first snowfall of the season. Friday was overcast and snowy, then Saturday dawned clear and cold. I took advantage of the break in the weather to pull the cover off of the boat to make the bow and stern enclosures Saturday evening. I used every little bit of scrap material I had, and pieced together what I hoped would be enough material to close the gaps at the ends.
Jake and I went over to the boat this morning around 11:30 to put the cover back on. Jake sat in the car while I hauled the cover up the ladder and began positioning it. I'd added a loop of webbing in the middle of the forward edge of the cover to make it fast to the masthead, so I tied that part off and began stretching the thing aft. I pulled it as far aft as possible and tied the stern panels together, then pulled the drawstring tight. Things were looking good. I wasn't able to make the stern panels meet completely, but they're better. I tightened the drawstring around the bottom and secured the tiedowns. Everything snugged down good and tight, forming a smooth slope on top to shed snow and water. I'm really happy with the way it turned out - and just in time: it's snowing again.
